Outbreak of gastroenteritis closes unit of Brockville General Hospital

The Brockville General Hospital has declared an Outbreak of Gastroenteritis. The patients affected have been isolated in one area of the hospital. The Public Health Unit is monitoring the spread of the virus. While that unit is closed to visitors, the hospital strongly urges patients’ families and friends to limit all non-essential visits until the outbreak is declared over.

If visits are necessary, the Hospital stresses the importance of hand washing and sanitizer to prevent the spread of infection. Gastro infections cause nausea, vomiting, cramps and diarrhea. Symptoms usually last two to three days.
