Candidates asked about top issues in Kemptville debate

At the All Candidates meeting September 17th, local candidates were asked to identify national issues.

Lorraine Rekmans of the Green Party identifies as an aboriginal woman. She speaksĀ on poverty, bad governance and lack of commitment to future generations through climate change.

Margaret Andrade of the NDPĀ saysĀ the PM has based the economy on the oil industry. It’s boom or bust. There are very few opportunities for good employment in this riding and not much opportunity for innovation or investment. She says the NDP will consider what everyone in the country needs.

Liberal candidate Mary Jean McFall says she is hearing that Canadians want their country back. She says Canadians don’t see themselves in this government anymore. The lack of industry and meaningful work in North Grenville is a real problem especially after the closure of Kemptville College. Cuts to government services are another real problem.

The incumbent Gord Brown says his top issue is the economy. He cites Flaherty’s action plan for the economy laying the groundwork for many new jobs. He says jobs and the economy will continue to be their focus. Security and the Armed Forces have received investment and resources. Money is committed to our natural and cultural resources as well.
