The Nancy Lane murder trial ended with a surprise manslaughter plea May 25. The former nurse and Prescott councillor did not admit to giving her seriously ill husband a lethal dose of drugs, but she did confess she didn’t help him as he lay dying in their Athens home. Lane’s lawyer said a spouse has a legal obligation to get assistance in this situation, and for whatever reason, she didn’t. A new pathologist’s report revealed Art Lane most likely died of heart failure, rather than drugs.
