Merrickville university student wins writing contest

Amelia Bowes, a third-year Redeemer University student from Merrickville, placed first in the 14 to 25 year-old category in The Word Guild’s Fresh Ink novice Writing Contest. The contest is sponsored by The Word Guild, an association of Canadian Christian writers and editors, to recognize the talents of aspiring writers who have never been published. For winning the award, Bowes has been given free registration to the Write Canada national conference this spring in Guelph. In her acceptance, Bowes gave credit to her Writer’s Craft teacher Mike Blouin of St. Michael Catholic High School, who she says helped her to recognize and grow her gift as a writer.
