The OPP is warning residents of a Hydro scam that is currently circulating in the area. A resident of the Rideau Lakes detachment received a phone call from a man claiming to be from Hydro One. The caller said there was a problem with the resident’s account and if he didn’t pay a bill within the hour his hydro would be shut off. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre has received similar complaints across Canada since last fall. Unsuspecting victims are instructed to buy a prepaid VISA in the scam. If you or anyone you know gets a call like this one, do not provide any personal information or hand over any money but call police immediately.
