North Grenville Deputy Fire Chief believes total burn ban will continue through weekend

Despite some rainfall in the forecast, the North Grenville Fire Service is making decisions about its current total burn ban one day at a time.

Deputy Fire Chief Randy Urslak says the ban, which came into effect earlier this week, is likely to continue through the weekend.

“We’ll just see how it all goes,” Urslak says. “I’m not sure yet, [but] I believe it will be into the weekend. Yes, there could be a little bit of rain, but we’ll have to measure and see what effects that has and how much we get.”

The ban was put in place because of hot, dry conditions that started last week.

While it’s in effect, campfires, burn barrels, brush burning, and all other open-air burning is prohibited.

However, if you have a charcoal or propane barbecue, you can still cook with it.

You can call North Grenville’s burning hotline at 613-706-1770 for the latest updates on what’s allowed.
