CECCE begins “four-day school week” pilot project

The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) has become the first school board in Ontario to offer families a four-day school week.

The board, which runs French-Catholic schools across the Ottawa area and in Leeds and Grenville, announced the launch of its four-day week pilot program at two Ottawa schools Thursday morning.

According to Board Chair Johanne Lacombe, it’ll become available this fall, and the board plans to take in feedback from students and families over the course of the year and make adjustments before a wider launch.

“The CECCE is an agile organization, so the project will evolve to meet the school community’s needs,” Lacombe says. “The board will maintain the same high standards for quality of instruction and ensure that services provided meet the community’s expectations.”

Director of Education Marc Bertrand says he also sees the change as a benefit to teachers and other employees that work for the board.

“Like all employers, school boards are also grappling with the challenges of recruiting and retaining staff,” Bertrand explains. “The CECCE sees this revamped schedule as an opportunity to stand out as an employer and improve its practices to boost efficiency and agility and, most importantly, support its employees’ well-being.”

We’ve reached out to the board to request an interview with Bertrand to learn more about the program.

In the meantime, parents interested in learning more are being encouraged to attend some information sessions about the program being held on March 27th at 6:30 PM.

You can see the details for how to attend either virtually or in person on the board’s website.
