Kemptville District Hospital announces partial closure of Emergency Department

Kemptville residents experiencing medical emergencies in the evening will need to travel elsewhere for the next few days.

The Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) has announced its Emergency Department will temporarily be closing between 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM, due to staffing shortages.

“Like hospitals across the country, KDH is experiencing a sustained, system-wide pressure on our emergency department staffing levels due to COVID-related absences, vacations, staff fatigue and burnout,” says Chief Executive Officer Frank Vassallo.

Vassallo is also thanking the staff that are currently working at the hospital for their efforts throughout the pandemic. “Thanks to their commitment to the patients we serve, we have been able to keep our emergency department open 24/7 up to this point,” he says.

According to Communications Officer Jenny Read, these new hours for the Emergency Department will last throughout the Labor Day long weekend, before returning to normal, 24-hour operations on September 6th.

If you’re experiencing a medical emergency, Read says the four nearest hospitals are in Winchester, Nepean, Brockville and Smiths Falls.
