Ontario Lieutenant Governor talks crowd at North Grenville flag raising

Elizabeth Dowdeswell says it’s great to see a large crowd come out to see the community raise a flag to honour the Queen.

Dowdeswell, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, made an official visit to North Grenville on Friday, including a flag raising ceremony in the early afternoon, commemorating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Speaking with MyKemptvilleNow.com after the ceremony, she was pleasantly surprised at how many people from the community were in attendance.

“One of the joys of this job is actually how gracious people are all over this province,” Dowdeswell says. “They’ve been so welcoming wherever I go.”

According to Dowdeswell, who was visiting North Grenville for the first time, she had received similar receptions in other communities earlier this summer.

“Last week we did a four-day road trip up in northern Ontario,” she says, “and all kinds of people came out, and they love to talk and they love to tell their stories. What could be better than that?”
