Robyn Holmes says her team at Connect Youth were “heartwarmed” by this year’s North Grenville District High School (NGDHS) graduating class’ donation.
Holmes is the Executive Director for the Prescott-based organization, which supports struggling kids and teens in the Leeds-Grenville region with initiatives like after-school programs and affordable housing units.
“We always are appreciative of community donations,” Holmes says, “but when it comes from a group that involves students, that means so much to us, because that’s our focus, is really the youth in Leeds and Grenville.”
According to Holmes, the $1,373.43 donated by the committee will go towards supporting children during the summer that rely on their school during the rest of the year.
“In the summer, we find, that’s really when isolation takes hold for youth in rural communities, because they don’t have access to their school peers or the staff support they might have at school,” she says.
“So, in the summer, we really make a strong effort to make sure that the youth remain connected, through the recreation and engagement activities that we have.”
