Local VQA wines can be sold at area farmers' markets starting May 1

Homegrown Ontario wines could be showing up for sale at local farmers’ markets as early as May 1st. It’s a two-year pilot program the province hopes will lead to a jump in demand for the VQA wines. The province says VQA wine sales hit $268 million last year, up $100 million from 2008.
There are approximately 200 farmers’ markets and 140 VQA wineries in Ontario. Premier Kathleen Wynne announced the program last December, the week after British Columbia announced a similar move. Some health professionals are speaking out against the two-year pilot project. This discussion is on the agenda at the April 28 meeting of North Grenville municipal council.
