Winchester District Memorial Hospital buys $97,000+ in new surgery equipment

Surgeons at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) are thanking all the donors from recent fundraisers for enabling them to replace some aging surgical equipment.

The hospital has announced the purchase of 10 new “laparoscopic trays,” which hold tools that surgeons use for a number of different procedures.

Joanne Pollock, the hospital’s Operating Team Leader, says she’s thrilled to be replacing the trays the hospital had been using.

“Some of our laparoscopic instruments were quite dated and this money could not have come at a better time,” she says.

“We were having to send our instruments out for repair, and in a lot of cases, the instruments were unrepairable.”

The total cost for the new equipment is $97,652. Kristen Casselman, the Managing Director of the WDMH Foundation in charge of fundraising for the hospital, says the trays are used nearly every day, and without them, some surgeries wouldn’t be possible.

“We are incredibly grateful to all of our donors who make these types of equipment purchases possible every year,” Casselman says.
