North Grenville council marks National Nursing Week

“The stamina and endurance of nurses, wherever they may work, pandemic or no pandemic is truly remarkable,” says Mayor Nancy Peckford.

Peckford and the rest of council are thanking local healthcare workers to commemorate National Nursing Week, an annual observance meant to spotlight the issues nurses deal with in their day-to-day lives and careers.

Councillor Doreen O’Sullivan, a registered nurse, says even though much of Ontario has re-opened, the pandemic is still a constant concern in the medical community.

“Nurses continue to care for critically ill patients during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond,” she says. “Nurses have also worked extra shifts as many of their colleagues have been impacted by COVID themselves.”

Peckford says the municipality has been listening to learn more about what nurses need in North Grenville right now.

“I recognize that many nurses have been clear,” she says. “They need better pay, more nurses on their shifts and sufficient time with family for this work to be sustainable.”

Peckford and the rest of council are urging you to spend some time this week recognizing the work nurses do in our area.
