OPP, fire department partner with Community Living for food drive

Officers from the Grenville County OPP detachment will be competing against North Grenville Fire Service firefighters to see who can collect more non-perishable food.

The two groups are partnering for a food drive with Community Living North Grenville, an organization that supports people with intellectual disabilities in our area. All of the food is going towards the Salvation Army Food Bank.

Kaitlyn Utman, a Direct Support Professional with the organization, says the food drive is running all month long, and the two teams have figured out a way of keeping score.

“We are keeping a running total of the weight,” Utman says, “because for every 50 pounds of food that is donated, one member of either the OPP or the fire department will get a pie in the face by the other squad.”

According to Utman, the food drive is part of the organization’s annual Community Living Month fundraising campaign.

“Last year we were very successful with our largest donation to date and that was largely due to our partnership and support received from the OPP,” she says.

“This year we decided to invite the Fire Department as well and I can’t wait to see where that leads us.

If you have any canned food, instant coffee or other non-perishables you’d like to donate, you can drop them off any time this month at the Community Living building on County Road 43.
