Municipality of North Grenville joining “Blue Community” project

Our municipality is joining more than 40 other Canadian communities to advocate for access to clean water.

North Grenville announced today that it’s becoming a “Blue Community,” meaning it wants to prioritize “protecting its water supply to ensure clean, safe water for generations to come.”

“Continuing to invest in our municipally owned and operated water and wastewater systems is a key priority for North Grenville,” says Mayor Nancy Peckford. “We are blessed to have a high quality of water throughout the municipality.”

The Blue Communities Project was started by the Council of Canadians, a non-profit organization that advocates for green energy, clean water, and other climate initiatives.

Since it first began, international communities in countries like Switzerland, Brazil and Greece have also joined the project.

Moving forward, Peckford says the municipality will be removing bottled water from vending machines.

It will also encourage anyone running events in our community to use water bottle filling stations, like the ones found at the Kemptville Live Music Festival every year.

“As part of the Revitalization of the Riverside Park project, a water filling station will be installed for residents to access for free while recreating at the park,” Peckford adds.
