Kemptville 73s lose game 1 of CCHL playoffs in Renfrew

The start of the Central Canada Hockey League’s (CCHL) playoffs saw our local team go down 7-3 to the Renfrew Wolves.

The finalized schedule for the playoffs saw the Wolves take on the Kemptville 73s Tuesday night.

Coach Jason Yorke says the team’s biggest struggle was penalties.

“In total, we ended up taking, I believe 13 penalties, compared to the other team which only took five,” he says. “So the penalties were a big reason why we ended up losing the game.”

Going into game two, Yorke says the team needs to focus on avoiding those penalties, and that they were better than the Wolves when all their players were out on the ice.

“We were the far better team, five on five,” he says, “and our players know it, and we know the only way this team is going to have a chance to beat us is to try and get a game filled with penalties and get the referees involved.”

Game two of the first-round playoff series is being held at the North Grenville Municipal Centre Thursday night at 7:30.

Yorke says the team is eager to see the crowd for their first home playoff game since 2016.

“Our fan support has been tremendous this year, and with Friday being Good Friday and a holiday, we’re hoping a lot of the residents in Kemptville come out to support the team.”
