“Please stay strong”: local healthcare workers write open letter to community

“The Omicron variant is here, and it is increasing the pressures on our already fragile health system.”

That’s from a recent open letter to the people of Leeds, Grenville and Lanark, written by representatives from the local health unit and hospitals in the region. The letter comes as the number of COVID-19 cases in the region rises rapidly.

The letter urges you to take the pandemic seriously and avoid large gatherings over the holidays. “This is a hard message to share,” the letter says. “We all want to celebrate the holidays with our friends and loved ones. But we cannot let our guard down; we must all work together to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.” The letter also recommends getting vaccinated if you haven’t yet, getting a booster dose if you’re eligible, wearing a mask whenever you’re out of the house, and self-isolating if you start to show symptoms or are in close contact with someone who tests positive.

“Please stay strong,” the letter concludes. “We need your help to relieve the pressure on our healthcare system so we can continue to treat those who need help over the winter season.”
