Kemptville District Minor Hockey Association temporarily suspends season

With NHL and NBA games suspended because of COVID-19 outbreaks, a local league is also working to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.

The Kemptville District Minor Hockey Association (KDMHA), a local organization that runs teams for players aged 17 and under, has temporarily suspended its season.

According to the KDMHA, even though regular games won’t be happening, practices are still going forward as planned, with new safety measures at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. “A maximum of 270 spectators in Arena 1 and a maximum of 36 spectators in Arena 2 are permitted,” the new guidelines say. “This must be adhered to by teams and teams must ensure capacity limits (especially when in Rink 2) are followed. Further changes to limits on the ice may be further communicated.”

The association has also introduced new guidelines for players and staff, including keeping dressing rooms closed until 20 minutes before practice starts, closing them again 20 minutes after practice, and asking all players, coaches, and bench staff to wear masks as much as possible.

The KDMHA says league play is suspended until at least January 2nd.
