North Grenville announces accessible transit returning in 2022

After nearly two years of limited operation because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Municipality of North Grenville says its accessible transit service is coming back.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says people looking to use the service will be paying less for it now than they did under the previous system. “In order to grow the ridership for this specific service,” she says, “Council has opted to reduce the fare from $11 to $5 each way – and offer a monthly pass of $70.”

The service, which provides people with disabilities with accommodating and accessible transportation, was initially operated by a volunteer group called North Grenville Accessible Transportation. The organization called on the municipality to take responsibility for the service in 2019, after running it themselves for over 20 years.

The municipality began offering the service again in January of 2020, through a company called Allegiance Transportation Services, but service has been limited to only essential transportation at specific times since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Anyone who qualifies to use the service will be able to book rides 24 hours in advance, starting on January 2nd, 2022. You’ll need to register to use the service. To see if you qualify to use it, register or book a ride, visit the municipality’s website for details on how to contact Allegiance Transportation Services.
