The weekend wind storm that swept through the province led to a massive spike in calls for police.

According to OPP officer Tyler Copeland, police dealt with 773 calls on Saturday as the winds tore through the region. He says that’s 47 per cent more calls than they normally deal with on an average Saturday in December.

According to Officer Copeland, police in our region were busiest between 5:00 in the afternoon on Saturday and 2:00 a.m. Sunday, with more than 500 of the total calls happening in that timeframe. Traffic hazards, collisions and downed power lines were some of the most common issues officers were called for.

Officer Copeland is thanking other first responders for their help in dealing with the storm. “The excellent service provided by local volunteer firefighters, EMS, Hydro and township employees did not go unnoticed.”
