Grand Trunk Railway trains in Morrisburg being refurbished, fundraiser scheduled for November 27th

A major heritage project is launching in South Dundas this month.

The old Grand Trunk Railway train engine and cars on display near Upper Canada Village are being refurbished. The preservation project is being spearheaded by a community organization called the Friends of the GTR 1008 (FGTR 1008), with permission from the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, the owners of the train.

A launch event for the renovations, called “Back on Track”, is being held at Stone Crop Acres Winery in Morrisburg on November 27th. A book launch by local novelist and FGTR 1008 member Maggie Wheeler is being held concurrently, with 10 per cent of book sales going towards restoring the trains.

The Winery has a capacity limit of 100 people for events, so the organization has planned two sittings for the launch event, lasting from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Tickets are available on Eventbrite for $10. All money from the ticket sales is going towards the refurbishment project.
