Kemptville District Hospital not impacted by nationwide crutch shortage

If you hurt yourself on the ice this winter, you’ll be able to get crutches in Kemptville. Jenny Read, the Kemptville District Hospital’s (KDH) Patient Relations Officer, says the hospital hasn’t been impacted by the shortage of crutches affecting other hospitals throughout Canada.

The shortage, caused by a worldwide shortage of aluminum and various supply chain issues, has led to some hospitals in both Canada and the U.S. to ask for donations of crutches and other assistive devices. Read says the KDH has a healthy supply of crutches right now, and isn’t currently looking for donations.

Outside of the Leeds-Grenville region, Jane Adams, the Winchester District Memorial Hospital’s (WDMH) Communications Lead, says her hospital hasn’t run out of crutches yet, but is struggling to buy more. The WDMH also isn’t currently accepting donations, but that may change as the shortage continues.
