After being closed for more than 24 hours, the Kemptville District Hospital’s Emergency Department is open again.
Jenny Read, the hospital’s Patient Relations Officer, says the hospital is still operating in what it calls “Code Grey”, meaning essential services like x-rays and ultrasounds for outpatients are still unavailable, but the hospital has re-opened the Emergency Department with the help of other local hospitals.
“We are grateful to our hospital partners for their eagerness to be part of this solution,” says Frank Vassallo, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer. “It enables us to fulfill our mandate of providing emergency care to residents of North Grenville and beyond.”
The hospital closed its Emergency Department on October 21st, early in the morning, following what we now know was a cyber-attack that shut down their computer systems. Read says the attack has been reported to the OPP, and a group of experts are working to bring the I.T. systems back online. The hospital has yet to announce any timeline for when their systems could return to normal.
