North Grenville Fire Department organizing Boot Drive fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy Canada October 8th

Fire Prevention Week 2021 is here, and the North Grenville Fire Department is preparing to raise money at an annual charity event. The Fire Department is organizing a “Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive” fundraising event, where firefighters will stand outside the station on County Road 44, trying to fill a large boot with cash donations. All proceeds from the event will go towards Muscular Dystrophy Canada, a non-profit organization dedicated to research into muscular dystrophy founded in 1954.

“The Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive is a 65-year-old tradition,” says Shannon Armitage, a Fire Prevention Officer with the North Grenville department. “We pair up with them every year.”

Armitage says that working with a charity like Muscular Dystrophy Canada is extremely important to the Fire Department. “It shows solidarity, it’s something we can all come together to help support, and it also helps get out into the public so that we can see the residents, and the residents see us, that we’re out there working for a good cause.”

The Boot Drive is scheduled for October 8th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Other events being hosted by the Fire Department this week include an information session for people interested in volunteer firefighting, and a contest for kids to win the chance to ride a fire truck to school in the morning.
