The owners at a North Grenville zoo are still searching for their missing bobcat.
On Sunday evening, the OPP reported on Twitter that the resident bobcat at the Saunders Country Zoo and Sanctuary had been missing since Friday evening.
Co-Owner Carla Saunders says they are unsure if the animal, named ‘Brett Cody’, was taken or released – but they do believe the incident was vandalism,
“Someone came through here Friday night, through the night, and decided to release some of our animals,” Saunders said. “Everyone was recovered except Brett Cody. We don’t know if it was to steal them or if it was just to release them.”
Saunders says the bobcat was hand-raised and formerly kept as a pet and does not possess the skills needed to survive on his own.
She says he poses no threat but he needs everyone’s help to get home.
“We imagine he’s terrified,” Saunders said. “If anyone spots him, the best thing they can do is just keep an eye on him and give us a call, because the best chance for recovery is if he sees us or hears our voices.”
The animal has the appearance of a very-large house cat, with grey-blonde fur and black spots, and weighs around 20 pounds.
In 2008, a Wallaby at the zoo named Wendell had escaped after a storm hit, and the animal was later found dead.
Saunders says if they can’t find Brett Cody, the same may happen to him.
