Leeds Grenville Small Business Centre Launches Summer Company Program

A number of young entrepreneurs are getting the opportunity to be their own boss this summer.

The Leeds Grenville Small Business Centre has launched its annual Summer Company program, which will provide participants with $1,500 to help them purchase items to run their  business.

Participants will receive another $1,500 upon successful completion of the program and proof of returning to school.

Manager of the Small Business Centre Jeanette Johnston says over the summer, these students will receive education on all things small business.

“Anything from bookkeeping, to dealing with a client who doesn’t pay, to helping people who are having challenges with solving solutions,” Johnston said.

The students will be meeting every two weeks to receive support and advice through the program’s mentoring sessions.

Johnston says once the program ends, these students will have a better sense of what they want to do for a career.

“By the end of the summer, they’ll hopefully be able to say ‘I never want to run my own business again,’ or ‘I’ll always want to be my own boss, or somewhere in between,” Johnston said.
