Hey Day Cancelled For Second Year In A Row

Residents will have to wait another year for one of the community’s biggest fundraisers.

For the second straight year, the Kemptville District Hospital Auxiliary has decided to cancel Hey Day, which was set for June 12-13, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Auxiliary member Teresa Harrison says this year would’ve marked the 61st anniversary of Hey Day.

“While we’re all sad to not be getting together, we know it’s for the best for the public,” Harrison said. “We do hope to be able to return in 2022 to host Hey Day again.”

Hey Day is one of the largest indoor garage sales in Ontario, and brings in roughly $40,000 for the hospital annually.

This marks the third time the event has been cancelled, dating back to 1967 when the aging Kemptville Arena was demolished.

Harrison says they appreciate all the work put in by volunteers, local businesses, and community members who work to make Hey Day a success.

“Everybody ends up going through their house to see what they can donate,” Harrison said. “A lot of people also support the cause by purchasing things when they’re there or volunteering to help out.”

Harrison says there are plans for another online event to help recoup the losses as a result of Hey Day.

More information on other fundraising opportunities will come at a later date.
