Plant A Tree For Mother’s Day

Your mother gave you the gift of life, and now’s a chance to return the favour.

For Mother’s Day, the Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation is launching it’s special occasion tree-planting program, where you can plant an environmental legacy in your mother’s name,

Executive Director for the foundation Diane Downey says these trees not only help fight erosion, manage floods, and keep contaminants out of our waterways – but they also make a great Mother’s Day gift.

“We want to recognize mom’s on Mother’s Day, and give back to Mother Earth,” Downey said. “It just sort of has a nice ring to it, and also it’s a meaningful way to recognize mom with a legacy tree. This applies for many other applications as well but Mother’s Day is right around the corner.”

Through the program, the RVCF plants a combination of white cedar, white pine, red oak and sugar maple trees.

Downey says their staff will tend to the trees, and help them grow into maturity so they can thrive for decades.

“If you’re going to plant a single tree for mom it’s $25, a small grove cost $100, that’s five trees,” Downey said. “Then it goes up from there, large groves of ten trees is $150, or if you’re thinking big about mom and your family you can go 25 trees for $250, and that’s a family forest that gets planted.”

Under the program, you can enter your donation amount and your information, and you’ll receive a charitable tax receipt to your email inbox.
