North Grenville Competing For Canada’s Most Active Community

North Grenville is looking to become Canada’s most active community.

The municipality announced that it’s been registered in the ParticipACTION’s Community Better Challenge, and is encouraging residents to get out and active for the month of June.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says the challenge is a great way to bring the community together – while staying safely apart.

“We know how much pride this community takes in being active,” Peckford said. “So, we thought it would be a fun, kind of unifying challenge. And there’s nothing like a little friendly competition to get people going.”

The challenge is open to everyone of any age or ability.

Individuals, organizations, schools, sport groups and even workplaces can all participate and track their minutes online.

Peckford says with the pandemic causing many fitness businesses to be closed, they felt this was the perfect way to keep the community active.

“A lot of our fitness studios have had to close temporarily, but a lot of us have discovered the trails, multi-use pathways, the forest, and there are so many different ways to be active, even during a pandemic,” Peckford said.

By logging your activities between June 1-30, you could help the community earn the national title and win the cash prize of $100,000.

To participate, residents can download the free ParticipACTION app where they can track their physical activity minutes and contribute to their community’s total minutes during the challenge period.

Every minute tracked during the month of June goes towards North Grenville’s overall score.
