WDMH gets an updated piece of equipment thanks to donations

The Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) has received, what they call, the gold standard for Emergency medicine.

The hospital purchased a new portable ultrasound machine. The machine cost $71,074 and was purchased with donations made to the Foundation’s General Equipment Fund according to Managing Director Kristen Casselman.

“Many people are surprised to learn that the provincial government does not fund the purchase of medical equipment for Ontario hospitals. To help ensure that WDMH has the right tools to provide excellent health care for our patients, the Foundation works with donors who care about WDMH and who want to make an impact. Thank you!”

Clinical Manager Katie Robertson says the machine will be used daily and have a significant impact on the care they provide.

The device can help identify diagnoses like cardiac arrest, internal bleeding, and pregnancy issues, according to WDMH. It is also used to support treatment interventions and will be used throughout the hospital.
