Person at Oxford-on-Rideau tests positive for COVID-19

The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) says over the weekend administrators at Oxford-on-Rideau Public School were made aware that a person at the school tested positive for COVID-19.

The UCDSB says school staff worked with the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit to provide the necessary information needed for the health unit to do its investigation. Staff, parents and guardians received notification on Saturday, October 17th about the level of risk, guidance and next steps to take.

Marsha McNair, Acting Superintendent of Schools and School Operations, says they are very fortunate to have such dedicated and professional school staff when they get information like this.

“The safety of our students and staff remains a priority for us. We take our lead from public health in all aspects involving case management, communication updates and site support, knowing that each situation that any school encounters will be unique.”

Doctor Paula Stewart, Chief Medical Officer of Health with the health unit says they were able to quickly work with the school and identify anyone who was a close contact to the person, and therefore high risk. She also says this is a good reminder to continue to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

The UCDSB says public health has indicated that there was no need to make any changes to the school schedule or routines. Parents and staff are encouraged to continue with the daily health screening with the provincial screening tool and practice good hand hygiene.
