Musical instrument lending library opening soon

People throughout the region will soon be able to borrow musical instruments for free. A new musical instrument lending library (M.I.L.L.), in memory of Aaron Stevenson, is nearing completion. The finishing touches are being added to the space at Stingers in Brockville.

William Stevenson, Aaron’s dad, says the community hub is the perfect location. He noted once the painting and soundproofing is done, it will be time to move in the equipment, open the doors and start having some fun. Stevenson explained the plan is to host a grand opening sometime in the near future.

The M.I.L.L. will work just like a regular library, but instead of books, people can borrow instruments. Stevenson says people will also be able to learn how to play the instruments, thanks to volunteers who have stepped up to provide music lessons.

The free library will span a 75 kilometer radius, with plans to add satellite offices in smaller communities like Prescott and Kemptville.

Stevenson noted donations have been rolling in and the M.I.L.L. now boasts an eclectic collection of instruments, including dozens of guitars, drum sets, amps, clarinets and trumpets.

The Do It For Aaron (DIFA) Foundation launched the initiative in December.
