High school teachers to strike on Friday

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) is planning a one-day walkout. High School teachers are set to strike on Friday. Negotiations between the union and provincial government have stalled.

The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) will be impacted. There will be no classes, activities or transportation for students in grades nine to 12.

The UCDSB says as it stands, students in kindergarten to grade eight will not be affected.

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) has suspended rotating strikes this week as the union heads back to the bargaining table today.

A one-day strike previously announced for Friday would’ve impacted the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario. The OECTA says that if negotiations cease to be productive, further strike action will be announced.

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) is also suspending rotating strikes for the next two weeks. The union says if a deal is not reached by March 6, it will move into Phase 7 Strike Protocol on March 9, which could entail a full strike.
