Kemptville Campus greenhouses reopen to the public

A fixture at the Kemptville Campus is getting a new lease on life. The greenhouses officially reopened to the public on Saturday.

Coordinator Claude Smith says people can drop by on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. She noted donations are being accepted, but there’s no admission fee.

Smith explained people can rent space in the greenhouses, by the square foot, to start their seedlings or keep their plants while they’re away.

She says the plan is to start running workshops – covering a wide range of topics – out of the space sometime in March. The two greenhouses currently in use total around 5,000 square feet.

Smith noted a gentleman who recently moved to Kemptville donated a 30-year private collection of cacti to the greenhouses. The plan is to turn the collection into a permanent display.

Smith explained it’s great to see the greenhouses back in use after years of sitting empty. She noted it’s an unusual facility for a municipality to own and there’s been a lot of interest from people in the community.

The greenhouses are located at 75 Campus Drive.
