OPP says to be prepared before heading out in a winter storm

Police are reminding the public to be ready for winter storm weather when you need to travel.

After this week’s ice storm, the OPP says there’s a number of tips you should follow if you have to go out on the roads.  Officials say you should adjust your driving by slowing down, giving other drivers extra space and trying not to make sudden lane changes.  The OPP also recommends you leave your full lighting system on, that you ensure your fuel tank is full and that you have an emergency travel kit with you in case you are stranded or stuck.  That kit should include things like food, a blanket, a candle, and extra cell phone power.

The OPP also reminds drivers to clear ice from all windows and lights and during storms, to keep doing so.

Finally officers recommend to stay off the road when it comes to unnecessary travel during winter storm weather and wait until conditions improve.

You can track the latest road conditions by going to 511on.ca.
