Melissa Van Bussel was awarded the 2019 Mensa Canada Scholarship. The Kemptville native, who graduated from St. Michael Catholic High School in 2015, is currently studying statistics at Carleton University. Bussel says the $2,000 scholarship will help cover the cost of tuition and books.
She recently graduated from Trent University with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in mathematics and computing systems.
Bussel says she has always been interested in math, but some of the teachers at St. Mike’s inspired her to follow that path. She noted she was excited about winning the scholarship.
Bussel explained she wants to become a professor.
She has received a number of scholarships over the course of her post-secondary education, including the Champlain Scholarship through Trent valued at $26,200.
