Trail dedication ceremony to honour Terry Butler

Terry Butler was an advocate for trails. The former North Grenville councillor first came up with the idea to link downtown to the Ferguson Forest Centre, via a walking trail along the north side of the waterway, in 2001.

The project met with setbacks, but the Waterfront Trail was finally completed in 2017. Butler passed away in May of that year. He served on council for 11 years.

A resolution to dedicate the Waterfront Trail in his memory was passed last November. The two-kilometer pathway along the north shore of the Kemptville Creek connects downtown to Clothier Street East.

The formal dedication ceremony is set for Saturday at Curry Park, starting at 3:00pm.

Councillor Doreen O’Sullivan says Butler was instrumental in establishing the trail and this was one of his dreams for the community.

The ceremony is open to the public.
