Local Terry Fox Run raises $250,000 to date

The Terry Fox Run in Kemptville hit a significant milestone. The event brought in $11,678 last year, pushing it past the $250,000 mark.

Organizer Steve Paterson says it’s a proud moment for the committee. He explained that he’s not sure if the people who got the ball rolling back in 1985 envisioned this, but they should definitely be recognized for getting everything started.

The goal is now to reach $500,000. This year’s Terry Fox Run is set for Sunday, September 15. It is being held at the Ferguson Forest Centre. Registration starts at 9:00am at the St. Michael Catholic High School track. All proceeds go to the Terry Fox Foundation, which funds cancer research. People can walk, run or bike the 2, 5 or 10 kilometer routes.

Paterson says all are welcome. He noted organizers are trying to cut down on waste, so plastic water bottles won’t be handed out this year. Paterson says people should bring their own reusable bottles and there will be refill stations along the way.
