Shed auction to benefit Handyman Heroes

The House of Lazarus (HOL) is running an online auction. The organization put out a call to local businesses challenging them to build 8×10 sheds to raise money for Handyman Heroes. Winchester BMR and RONA Kemptville Building Centre both stepped up to the plate.

Bidding is now open on the two sheds and wraps on August 30.

Executive Director Cathy Ashby says Handyman Heroes addresses urgent housing and transportation needs for people in the area. She noted dollars to start the program were provided by 100 Men Who Care North Grenville and 100 Men Who Care North Dundas. Ashby explained the HOL buys the materials and trades people volunteer their time to do the work.

She says Handyman Heroes has already helped 7 families. Ashby noted volunteers have fixed a roof, laid flooring, replaced brakes and power steering.

She says more volunteers are needed for the program. Ashby explained trades people can put their name on the Handyman Heroes list and if a project comes in, they’ll be contacted to see if they have time to do it.

The HOL serves people in North Grenville, South Grenville, North Dundas and South Dundas.
