Local author helps 6 families with respite care

Anne Walsh says every parent needs support. The local author, who penned Out of the Mouths of Moms: From the Trenches of Motherhood, used proceeds from her book to fund a summer respite program for families with children on the autism spectrum.

Walsh recruited 7 teenagers for the program, provided training and is covering their wages for the summer. The students were paired with 6 local families and will provide 6 hours of respite per week.

Walsh says she wanted to do something positive. She noted the book has 50 stories, all from different mothers, but at the end there’s a section talking about how you can support moms.

The program launches next week.

Walsh says these families really have to get creative when it comes to finding care, especially if they work full-time, and need the job to pay for services. She noted government cutbacks are going to have a financial impact.

Out of the Mouths of Moms: From the Trenches of Motherhood is available on Amazon.
