A 32-year-old foreign diplomat is under investigation after drinking and driving. On Tuesday around 9:30pm Ottawa Police were called about a vehicle driving erratically on Riverside Drive near Smyth Road. Police located and stopped the vehicle on Bank Street near Johnston Road. The driver, a diplomat with full immunity status, showed signs of impairment and was detained for drunk driving. He refused a breath test and was released on an Appearance Notice. He was released into the care of a member of the relevant embassy. Officers are in contact with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada regarding diplomatic status.
