Service groups donate money for new flooring at KYC

The Royal Canadian Legion, Kemptville Lions and Secret Sisters came together to help out the Kemptville Youth Centre (KYC). The three groups donated $6,000, to cover the cost of replacing the old carpet upstairs at the KYC. Installation of the new flooring will happen next month.

Operations Manager Barb Tobin says there are some other renovations on the bucket list for the KYC, including new windows.

The organization relies on donations from the community to cover programming and facility costs. Tobin says the KYC served over 400 local youth last year alone.

The centre provides a safe space for youth between the ages of 12 and 18.

Tobin says it’s an interesting story how the Secret Sisters got involved in the project. She says one of the groups’ members was walking by the KYC last summer when her dog was attacked by another dog.

Tobin says the youth and program coordinator went outside to offer her help and she remembered that. She says it’s nice to see an act of kindness come full circle.
