Local heavy equipment company helping with flood efforts

Geleynse Earthworks is in Constance Bay battling flood waters. The local company has two employees on the ground and equipment. They’ve been there since Sunday, after hearing how serious the situation was.

Owner Luke Geleynse says they brought a skid-steer and tractor. He says they had the resources and equipment available and if a disaster like this happened in Kemptville, he would hope they would return the favour. Geleynse says it’s just part of being human.

He says just on Armitage Street, where they are working, seven houses have been lost. Geleynse says two houses caught fire on roads close by.

He says a ton of volunteers are coming out from Ottawa, but more bodies are still needed to fill sandbags and move them around.

Geleynse says he’s not sure how long the Canadian Army will be sticking around before turning it over to the local authorities, but he plans on having equipment there as long as he can.

He says the water is likely to peak tomorrow and remain high for around two weeks.
