The restructuring of paramedic services across the province will not mean less paramedics on the road. MPP Steve Clark says no Ontario paramedic will lose their job.
The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville sent out a press release yesterday about the government’s plan to merge paramedic services into 10 regional ambulance providers. The number of dispatch centers will also be reduced.
Paramedic services are currently delivered through the county, overseen by the Joint Services Committee.
Leeds Grenville CAO Andy Brown says until the county hears from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, staff don’t know how it’s going to be dealt with in terms of timing and the process.
Joint Services will meet at the beginning of May to discuss the restructuring. Â Â
Clark says the government is going to work directly with municipal partners, paramedic service providers and other interested parties over the coming months. He says there will be consultation with all stakeholders.
Clark says the province will empower front-line paramedics. He says the government has made it clear that it plans on looking at administrative efficiencies to put more money into the front-line. Â
