Rainbow, Transgender flags to fly in North Grenville

North Grenville Council passed a resolution last night to fly the Rainbow and Transgender flags. A flag raising ceremony will be held on June 1, to mark Pride month. The request was brought forward by Rainbow Union Dundas and Grenville (RUDG). The Rainbow flag was flown for the first time last year.

RUDG Founder Holly Brown was on hand at the council meeting to talk about the importance of supporting the LGBTQ2+ community.

She says RUDG is taking it up 10 notches by organizing Kemptville’s first Pride event, also set for June 1. Brown says the event has exploded into something much bigger than she could have expected.

She says the flag raising last year made an impact. Brown says RUDG got positive feedback from former residents who felt their sexual orientation or gender would be better supported in a larger community. She says it meant a lot to see the Rainbow flag fly in Kemptville.
