Municipal taxes going up 1.5 per cent

North Grenville residents will pay 1.5 per cent more for municipal taxes. Council adopted the 2019 Budget on Tuesday night.

Director of Finance Marcus Hewitt says one side of the equation is the assessed value of your property, done by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). He says rates set by the municipality, county and school boards are the other side.

The increase represents $8.77 more per $100,000 of assessed value. Around $15 million of the budget comes from property taxes. The other $13.4 million comes from municipal user fees, water rates, building fees, development charges and government grants.

Hewitt says the municipal portion of the tax bill will be $593 per $100,000 of assessed value.

Operating costs for the municipality total $19.8 million, with $7.7 million going towards wages and employment related costs. Around $6.7 million will be spent on capital projects this year, including roads, lighting and sanitary sewers.
