Community Living, Lockwood Brothers partner on affordable housing project

Community Living North Grenville and Lockwood Brothers Construction have partnered on an affordable housing project. Construction may begin this spring. The 11-unit complex, being built on Jack Street, could be ready for occupancy by fall.

Executive Director Sandra McNamara says Community Living has a vested interest in affordable housing. She says there is a critical need and housing is difficult to find for people living on a low income.

Community Living will own the property and rent out the units.

McNamara says there is an existing duplex on the property. She says 9 new town homes will be built in 3-unit blocks. McNamara says they will be nice units, built to accommodate affordable housing with no garages or basements.

Planning for the project started two years ago. A public meeting to rezone the property is set for March 12 at 7:00pm.

Applications for the units will be made available to anyone in the community who qualifies for affordable housing. For more information, contact Community Living directly by calling 613-258-7177.
