Senior centre requests $12,500 for transportation program

The Kemptville & District Home Support Inc. (KDHSI) is asking council for help. The senior centre submitted a budget request during a special meeting last night.

Executive Director Susan Smith says the transportation program would benefit from municipal support. She says the centre’s clients are increasingly frail and 191 people use the service.

The transportation program costs about $25,000 per year. The KDHSI is seeking $12,500 from the municipality.

Smith says the program provides transportation to medical appointments in Ottawa, Winchester, Brockville and Kingston. Around 40 volunteers make the service possible.

The KDHSI anticipates 4,300 drives this year alone. Usage of the service has doubled in the past five years.

The request will be considered during the budget process, set to wrap up in March.
