Two Ottawa women missing in Nepal after a deadly series of avalanches are safe.
Virginia Schwartz posted an update on her Facebook page early Thursday stating she and best friend Jane Van Criekingen are alive and well — and hiking out of the area where up to two dozen people were killed.

The families have received confirmation neither woman was among the 4 Canadian trekkers killed in the avalanche. The Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal said it has sent two rescue helicopters to the region.
