Ottawa Police confirm fatalities in bus crash

The Chief of the Ottawa Police says there are a number of injuries and some fatalities after a double-decker bus hit a transit station this afternoon.  Ottawa General Hospital says in a tweet that nine people are in critical condition.

Police say the OC Transpo bus hit the Westboro Station.

It’s currently not known what caused the bus to hit the station.

Emergency responders remain at the scene and people are being asked to avoid the area.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson says the Churchill Seniors Centre on Richmond Road is open to residents seeking information about family members involved in the collision.

Ottawa Police will be holding a press conference at 7:00 tonight and will provide further details.
